Although the name insinuates artwork derived from an oceanic theme, this is far from the case. The word maritime traditionally alludes to travel by sea and the forging of new paths and connections. The collective dons this name as a metaphor for their aesthetic exploration in the constantly shifting and ever-expanding art world. This group also works together under a cooperative spirit and a common understanding that a whole can become greater than merely the sum of its parts. It is this ideology that bridges the gap between their varied media and artistic processes. The emerging collective is composed of eleven SFSU alumni, two current students, and one self-taught artist. Their work ranges from painting, photography, sculpture, to installation work. This intimate exhibit highlights each of the members’ own artwork and showcases how varying artistic interests work together in one space. Curators: Jessy Gaumann and Carolyn Ho
