Roots, Routes, and Riots

A contemporary interpretation of the cross-cultural complexities born from the African diaspora, Roots, Routes and Riots features several Bay Area artists demonstrating a wide range of artistic styles to convey hybridity, multivalence, and diversified ideology. The multi-media exhibition is evidence of the dynamic integration between African “roots” of origin, the “routes” of diaspora, and the “riots” of social and personal conflict. Each piece reflects the struggles, boundaries, and transformations of tradition to a new aesthetic.
